Heide loves to capture anything in stitch! Using techniques she has developed, she makes unique and vibrant images with her trademark loose threads that lend an energy and movement to her work. Heidi draws her inspiraton from her surroundings and is particularly inspired by iconic buidings and how people and events interact with them. Her work has a
nostalgic, magical feel, often with a touch of humour, made, she says, for the ‘child in you’.
As a Brighton-based artist, Heidi is continually inspired by the beautiful architecture on her doorstep and has captured many of its iconic scenes in stitch, including the Palace Pier, the West Pier, the Royal Pavilion and the bandstand. In 2012 she produced a collection of textile pieces to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics, which perfectly suited her sparkly, celebratory approach to her work.
Alongside this, Heidi contiues to create a series of magical pictures inspired by childhood, including Mary Poppins, the Clangers, Peter Pan and Doctor Who and the Daleks! Often taking the characters out of context, such as: Dorothy goes to Brighton; the little Daleks go on a city break; and a fairytale in London.
Heidi and her work can be found at the Naughty Pirates Gallery in the Artist Quarter – her latest adventure with her partner Stephen Connett – or at one of the art or craft fairs she shows at throughout the year.
