Japanese artist Hiroko Lewis is based in Brighton, where she creates semi-abstract works in oil that draw from and build upon her classical training in tempera. Starting with the hint of something remembered or observed, often derived from nature, her work travels to expand these fragments into a new world using a process of repeated construction, destruction, and reconstruction, in search of another sensory reality.
After graduating with a degree in Fine Art from Kanazawa College of Art, Hiroko pursued a career as an artist and visual designer in Japan. Since moving to Brighton in 2011, she has focused on fine art, aiming to express and adapt to her new-found environment. She will be participating in the Brighton Artists Open Houses Festival in May 2014 at the Chevalier House in Stanmer Park Road
