Jane Sampson

Jane creates works that contain a narrative using a photomontage of images from many different sources. Often these contain a mixture of found and her own photographic or autographic images. This library of iconography is constantly being re-used and manipulated through different media. The use of texture, colour and the layering of imagery is central to her work.

A graduate of Exeter University and the Barber Institute, Birmingham University, Jane moved to Brighton to study printmaking. She did research into photomechanical printmaking techniques for Brighton University and is well known for teaching screen printing both there and at her own studio, Ink Spot Press (see page opposite). She has received several Arts Council awards for her work. Most recently she won the John Purcell prize at the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.
