Leila Godden's seascapes and abstract paintings are exhibited in various galleries in the UK, including Chalk Gallery in Lewes, and were selected for the Cork Street Open Exhibition, London, in August 2013.
Her source of inspiration is her connection with the sea. The vast panorama of changing light, dramatic weather and powerful water, framed by rocks solid with history, yet transient with time and the rhythm of the earth.
Each piece starts with something that resonates, perhaps a glimpse of the play of light as water cascades over a rock, a moody horizon or, less tangible, the feeling of a painting which needs to be expressed.
Mark making and texture are fundamental to her work, as is a limited palette. Her goal is to create paintings that capture the essence of both the subject and the artist, and offer a connection with you, the viewer. Beyond words, but sensed and understood.
