Michelle Cobbin has been based in Brighton
since the 1980s. Her work is predominately abstract painting. Michelle studied Visual Culture BA (Hons) and FdA Fine Art at the University of Brighton.
Influenced by Zen calligraphy, the St Ives artists, and ‘wabi sabi’ (the Japanese expression for finding beauty in the impermanent and imperfect). These all feed Michelle’s interest in dynamic movement and stillness. Her own work conveys elements of these, in an abstracted take on her subjects, or in more spontaneous works that embody the process of painting. She works in a variety of mediums and sizes. Preferring to work large, she enjoys the physicality of movement and playfulness that is increased in larger works.
