Sheila was born in Sussex and attended courses at Brighton Polytechnic and St Ives School of Painting from 1978-1985. Her work was shown for several years by the RI at the Mall Galleries in London, and in 2002 Sheila won the RWS Open Exhibition Award at the Bankside Gallery. During this time she taught art to adult students for 15 years and exhibited her work throughout Sussex and in St Ives.

In 2005 Sheila was elected President of the Sussex Watercolour Society, and from 2005-2011 was a member of the artist-led Chalk Gallery in Lewes. She has exhibited in the Brighton Open Houses and for the past four years at the Brighton Art Fair.

In March 2012 Sheila and her husband Peter had a joint exhibition in Lewes, and they will be showing at the Hop Gallery again in August 2014, during the Lewes Artwave.

Sheila paints in acrylic or mixed media, often with collage, on deep canvas. She says of her work:

“My aim is to simplify shapes and enhance the colour, either from landscape and still life, or as pure abstraction when listening to music. The colour and movement convey the mood.”
